PNDC, part of the multi-award-winning University of Strathclyde, is a unique, state-of-the-art innovation environment supporting the development, de-risking and acceleration of whole energy system solutions and services, simulating and providing real-world validation of the wide range of critical functionalities required to realise a net-zero energy future.

The centre currently brings together academics, industrial organisations, and technologists to define and execute pre-commercial research, development, test and demonstration projects to shape and optimise future smart energy networks. PNDC was established by founding partners SSEN, SP Energy Networks, and the University of Strathclyde and has been fully operational since 2014. The centre is broadening its capabilities and partner network to focus on validating and accelerating whole system solutions.

With its focus on accelerating innovation in the mid-to-late technology readiness levels (TRL), PNDC delivers accelerated technology and system validation using its flexible real-world demonstration environment, coupled with a rich research portfolio across all aspects of the energy system. This highly innovative activity is underpinned by collaboration with industrial partners and is supported by leading academic expertise from within the University of Strathclyde. PNDC’s innovation activity outputs provide critical acceleration of technology solutions into business-as-usual (BAU) applications.

PNDC is undertaking significant capability enhancement and facilities expansion, providing an innovative, operational excellence hub for current and future energy system innovation, and holds the exciting prospect to develop whole systems validation capability.

At ENIC 2021, PNDC is looking forward to connecting with energy network innovators from across the globe to share ideas and explore collaborative opportunities.
